Help on my project to make a hat out of recyclable materials?

Well this is a school project and I'm stuck! I was originally planning to make a helmet, but I'm not so sure how I'm going to make it comfortable and especially on how to decorate it. Also can I make it safe with aluminum in the inside of the helmet? Some of the A hats our teacher showed us is a jousting helmet and a hate that was handwoven!! I also plan to decorate it be making wings on it. Anyways, can you guys suggest what type of hat i should make and how I should make it with what?
