Does it matter whether you have matching wedding bands?

He wants something more ornate since his prior marriages were just a plain band. However, our tastes are quite different. Any notions that you can think of that are problematic for different styles? What he likes, to me, is gaudy although I'm willing to go two tone (gold/silver).
